“Some time later, God tested Abraham…” – Genesis 22:1
Trusting God when the path doesn’t make sense is one of the hardest things we’re asked to do. Maybe you’re in a season where He’s calling you to surrender something—your dreams, your comfort, or the security you’ve built. Maybe He’s asking you to move forward without giving you all the answers. That’s where Abraham found himself in Genesis 22.
After years of waiting for his promised son, God asked Abraham to lay Isaac on the altar. It wasn’t just a test of obedience—it was a test of Abraham’s heart. Would he trust the Giver more than the gift?
Abraham didn’t argue or delay. He simply obeyed. For three long days, he walked toward Moriah, carrying the weight of surrender with every step. That journey wasn’t just physical—it was deeply spiritual. Every moment was a choice to keep trusting, even without clarity.
What do we do when God asks us to walk in obedience with no visible outcome? When there are no guarantees, no rewards, just a call to trust?
Moriah was more than a destination. It was a future altar—the place where Solomon’s temple would be built, and likely near the very hill where Jesus would later be crucified. Abraham’s obedience pointed to something far bigger than his own story. In offering his son, Abraham foreshadowed the moment when God would offer His.
“God will provide for Himself the lamb…”
(Genesis 22:8)
Faith doesn’t mean we always understand. It means we keep walking anyway.
God wasn’t after Isaac—He was after Abraham’s heart. Every promise Abraham had received was tied to Isaac, but now, Abraham had to decide if his trust was in the promise or the One who made it.
Sometimes, God asks us to place our most cherished things on the altar—not to take them away, but to reveal where our true faith lies. Surrender is never easy. But when we choose to obey, we learn something life-changing: God is enough.
At the last moment, God intervened. A ram caught in the thicket became the substitute. Abraham named the place Yahweh Yireh—The Lord Will Provide. That name wasn’t just a description of what God had done—it was a declaration of who God is.
Maybe you’re standing at your own altar right now. Maybe obedience feels costly and the outcome uncertain. But just like Abraham, you’re not alone. God is writing a bigger story—one where His provision always arrives right on time.
Father, there are times when trusting You feels impossible. There are moments when surrender feels too costly. But today, we choose to trust You. We choose to believe that Your plans are greater than ours, even when we don’t understand. Give us the faith to walk in obedience, the courage to surrender what we hold dear, and the confidence to rest in Your provision. Thank You for being the God who sees, who provides, and who never fails us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
