“God is with you in everything you do.” – Genesis 21:22
There’s something powerful about a faith that speaks louder than words. Abraham didn’t have to explain his relationship with God—his life revealed it. When Abimelech, a foreign king who didn’t follow Abraham’s God, looked at Abraham’s life, he could clearly see that God was with him.
That’s a question worth asking ourselves: Can people see God’s presence in our lives?
Abraham wasn’t perfect. He had moments of failure, doubt, and even dishonesty. And yet, his overall faithfulness and obedience built a reputation that even outsiders couldn’t ignore. Abimelech didn’t just want peace with a powerful man—he wanted peace with a man who walked with God.
We often think of sharing our faith as what we say—inviting people to church or quoting Scripture. But what if our lives are speaking even louder than our words? How we treat people, how we respond to stress, how we make decisions—these daily actions can reflect the reality of God’s presence in our lives.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
(Matthew 5:16)
When Abimelech observed Abraham’s life, he didn’t just see success—he saw God. And that’s the invitation for us: to live in such a way that people can’t help but notice God’s hand over us.
When conflict arose over a well, Abraham had every right to fight. But instead of escalating the issue, he chose peace. He made an offering, trusted God with the outcome, and focused on building something lasting. His decision wasn’t about winning the moment—it was about leaving a legacy of faith.
At the end of the passage, Abraham calls on God as El Olam—The Eternal God. He plants a tamarisk tree, a tree that grows slowly and won’t offer much shade for years. But that small act of planting something long-lasting was an act of trust. Abraham was thinking beyond himself, trusting that God’s promises would endure for future generations.
What if we lived with that same eternal mindset? What if we built lives not just for today, but for the generations to come?
When others look at us, do they see peace or anxiety? Integrity or compromise? Trust or control? Abraham’s life showed the difference that faith makes—not just in private belief, but in public living.
The challenge is clear: Are we living in a way that reflects God’s presence to the people around us?
Father, thank You for the example of Abraham and the way his faithfulness pointed others to You. Help us to live in such a way that Your presence is undeniable in our lives. Teach us to seek peace, to walk in integrity, and to trust in Your eternal promises. May our lives be a testimony that draws others closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
