“Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14)
Waiting can be one of the hardest parts of faith. Maybe you’ve been holding onto a promise for years, praying and hoping—but slowly losing heart. Sarah was in that place too. After decades of disappointment, she had almost stopped believing that God’s promise could still come true. When she overheard the Lord say she’d have a child within the year, she laughed. From a human perspective, it sounded impossible. But God responded with a question that still echoes through time: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”
Sometimes, we protect our hearts by lowering our expectations. Like Sarah, we may still believe in God, but we’ve stopped believing for that one thing. Maybe it feels too late. Maybe it seems foolish to hope. But God’s timing is never off. When He moves, it’s always at the right moment—and often in ways we could never predict.
I’ve been there myself. Years ago, my family battled severe gluten intolerance. It affected our health, our routines, and even our work as missionaries. Then one Sunday, while walking through a prayer line, I felt the Lord whisper, “It’s done.” I didn’t know what He meant, but later that night my daughter said, “Mom, something happened today.” We tested it. We ate foods we hadn’t touched in years—and nothing happened. No pain. No rashes. No reactions. God had healed us instantly. And like Sarah, I laughed—not in doubt, but in wonder.
God’s power is not limited by age, illness, or time. Even when we struggle to believe, He remains faithful. He doesn’t require perfect faith—He just wants us to keep showing up, to keep trusting Him, and to not give up on His promises.
So let me ask you: where have you stopped believing that God can move? What have you quietly tucked away, assuming it’s too late? If God can give Sarah a child at 90, if He can heal a family in a moment, He can absolutely handle the weight of what you’re carrying.
Is anything too hard for the Lord?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for being a God who does the impossible. Help me to trust You even when hope feels risky. When I’m tempted to give up, remind me that Your timing is perfect and Your promises are sure. Nothing is too hard for You. I surrender my doubt and choose to believe. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
