“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33
Letting go is never easy, especially when we don’t know what’s coming next. Maybe you’ve had to walk away from a job opportunity, a relationship, or a dream that just wasn’t working out the way you thought it would. The unknown can feel scary, and trusting God’s plan over our own instincts isn’t always natural.
In Genesis 13, Abram faced a choice. He and his nephew Lot had grown so wealthy that the land couldn’t sustain them both. Their herdsmen were arguing, and it was clear they needed to separate. As the elder and the one carrying God’s promise, Abram had every right to claim the best land for himself. But instead of grasping for control, he did something unexpected—he let Lot choose first.
Lot picked what looked good in the moment, choosing the lush, well-watered land near Sodom, a city known for its wickedness. He made a decision based on appearances, not wisdom. But Abram? He trusted that no matter where he ended up, God would take care of him. And because of that faith, God reaffirmed His promise, expanding Abram’s vision of what was to come.
How often do we make decisions based on what seems best right now, rather than trusting that God sees the bigger picture? Fear tells us to cling tightly to what we can control. Faith invites us to surrender, knowing that God’s provision is always better than anything we could arrange for ourselves.
Abram’s story also reminds us of the power of worship in uncertainty. Every major moment in his journey was marked by an altar, a place of surrender and trust. He didn’t just wait for God to prove Himself before he worshiped—he worshiped in the waiting.
Maybe you’re in a season where letting go feels risky. Maybe trusting God with an uncertain future is stretching your faith. But just like Abram, you don’t have to fear the unknown. God sees you, He knows what’s ahead, and He will always provide exactly what you need.
Father, I surrender my plans to You. Help me to trust that Your way is better, even when I can’t see the outcome. Give me the faith to let go of what I’m holding too tightly and the confidence to believe that You will always provide. Let my heart be anchored in worship as I wait on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
