Have you ever faced a moment where you had to let go of something you really wanted, trusting that God had something better? Maybe it was a job opportunity, a relationship, or a dream that wasn’t coming together the way you hoped. These moments test our faith, making us wonder if we’re truly willing to trust God’s plan over our own.
In Genesis 13, Abram faced a choice that could have caused conflict and uncertainty. Instead of grasping for control, he surrendered, allowing Lot to choose first and trusting that God would provide exactly what he needed.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.– Matthew 6:33
How Abram’s Faith Teaches Us to Trust God in Hard Decisions
After returning from Egypt, both Abram and Lot had grown so wealthy that the land could no longer support them together. Their herdsmen began to argue, and a separation became necessary. As the elder and the one carrying God’s promise, Abram had every right to claim the best land for himself. But instead, he let Lot choose first.
Lot, guided by what looked best in the moment, chose the well-watered land near Sodom, a city later known for its wickedness. His short-term thinking would lead to long-term consequences. Abram, on the other hand, trusted that no matter where he ended up, God would provide for him.
This story reminds us that faith isn’t about securing what looks good right now—it’s about trusting that God’s plan is better than anything we could arrange for ourselves. Just because something looks appealing doesn’t mean it aligns with God’s best for us.
Worship Anchors Us in Uncertainty
One of the most powerful lessons from Abram’s journey is how he responded in faith. At every major moment, he built an altar to worship God. Worship wasn’t just something he did—it was how he lived.
When faced with uncertainty, do we try to control outcomes, or do we pause to worship and trust that God is leading us? Worship keeps our hearts anchored in faith, reminding us that God is always faithful, even when we don’t have all the answers.
What This Means for Us Today
Maybe you’re in a season where you feel like you have to fight for what you want. Maybe letting go feels risky, and trusting God seems hard. But Abram’s story reminds us that when we surrender control, God provides in ways we never expected.
Trusting God’s plan over our own desires is never easy, but it’s always worth it. Faith means seeking Him first, even when the path ahead is unclear. Worship shifts our focus from fear to faith, reminding us that God is always working behind the scenes.
Take a deep breath and surrender. God is faithful, and He will provide—just like He always has.
A Prayer for Trusting God’s Plan
Lord, I surrender my plans, my desires, and my fears to You. Help me to trust that Your ways are higher than mine, even when I don’t understand. Give me faith to follow where You lead and to worship You in every season. Remind me that You are always faithful and that I can rest in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
